If you’ve never visited a Tools classroom, join us as we take a look at what’s happening inside! Each month, one Tools Kindergarten teacher posts photos and updates on their classroom happenings. Meet our December Tools Kindergarten Teacher of the Month, Fabiola Suezen, who posts about her Esceula de Parvulos ICHUAC kindergarten students from their classroom in Santiago, Chile, where they learn in their native Spanish.

Over the moon about dramatization

One of Ms. Suezen’s favorite Tools activities is dramatization. In this activity, children build both self-regulation skills and background knowledge that help them better understand the stories they’re reading. Most recently, her kindergarteners “traveled” to the moon by transforming their classroom into a lunar base! Starry lights, glow-in-the-dark balloons, and planets decorated their classroom while students made props, like jet packs, to immerse themselves in their class story, “Midnight on the Moon.”

“Ellos estaban muy felices pensando que si estamos en la base lunar.” [They are very happy imagining we are at the moon base.]

Ms. Suezen’s kindergarteners experienced a total classroom transformation, experiencing “Midnight on the Moon” throughout all activities. The picture below shows the children engaging in a geometry-themed activity to better learn shapes while keeping to their lunar theme!

Shooting for the stars

Along with exciting dramatization opportunities, Ms. Suezen helps her students shoot for the stars by building their literacy skills during Tools writing activities. She loves that scaffolds and support for writing is part of all activities so that learning is accessible to all students.

“Me encanta la forma que Tools realiza las actividades de forma fácil ,para que el niño las pueda realizar, los andamiajes a le pre escritura que se realizan en varias actividades.” [I love the way that Tools makes the activities easy so that children can do them, e.g. there are scaffolds for pre-writing with different activities.]

The pictures below show children drawing and writing a summary of the day’s story.

Thank you to Ms. Suezen and her kindergarteners for sharing their love of dramatization and literacy with us!
